And here we thought she was a nice Alaskan mom

I don’t think Christopher Hitchens cares too much for Sarah Palin.  Here’s what he has to say in today’s Slate.

Some condescending right-wing intellectuals are calling her style “populist” and comparing it with Andrew Jackson and William Jennings Bryan. The true name for it is demagogy, descending from Joseph McCarthy, Robert Welch, and the nastier elements of the old Nixon gang—people to whom slander and defamation was second nature.

Do take a minute to read his piece, titled “Palin’s Pals.” What Hitchens does beautifully is document the way Palin goes for the jugular one day and the next says, “Who me?”

There’s nothing like a saucy wink to distract attention from that stiletto, slipped back into a boot.

About jerrylanson

I teach, write, coach and sing, though you're not required to listen to the latter. I'm a journalism professor at Emerson College in Boston. My third book, "Writing for Others, Writing for Ourselves," was published in November by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing. You can read a sample chapter at www.jerrylanson.com. My passions are politics (generally liberal in outlook), music, mountains, golden retrievers and my grandchildren, though not in that order. Please stop by and mix it up with me. I always answer those who post.
